Re: MikeOxon

Hi Mike.

I agree, your 'bug' is most likely to be a member of the family Ricaniidae - Planthoppers. I don't know the exact species.

I'm looking forward to seeing the pictures from the rest of your trip.

Good hunting.

Re: Bugboys mission

Hi Bugboy,

You are determined ...

Well done on the Clouded Yellow. However, it's not the helice form of the female. Personally I think you have something better. I believe it to be Colias croceus ab. aubuissoni, though I'm happy to be corrected.

Good hunting.

Re: Skipper ID please

Hi Kev,

These are Essex Skipper (Thymelicus lineola), the antennae being diagnostic. They are mostly males. The following image is of a male Small Skipper (Thymelicus sylvestris). This clearly shows the brown underside of the antenna.

Goodson and Read (1969), in their Aberrational and Subspecific Forms of British Lepidoptera, list at least 277 named aberrations of the Common Blue. The description for ab. apicta-thetis is as follows:

Hi Lee, Look no further should you decide to go down the 7D route. Its as good as new. http://www.ukbutterflies.co.uk/phpBB/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=1704&p=95572&hilit=canon+7d#p95572 Its probably best that I don't sell its virtues as I'm selling it but Pete Eeles primarily uses a 7D ... Let ...

Re: are these?

Hi Richard,

The first image is certainly a male Adonis Blue, Polyommatus bellargus. The second, I'm fairly sure, appears to be the larva of the Scarlet Tiger moth, Callimorpha dominula.

Hope that helps.

Re: Another caterpillar for ID

Hi Chris,

Its been some years since I've seen them but I'm fairly sure this is Spotted Fritillary, Melitaea didyma. I believe the larvae feed on plantains as per your picture.

Good hunting.

Kind regards. Mark
