WHAT IS THIS?

Post by Aughie »

Image

I spotted this butterfly at 15.30 today 17/08/15. I had photoed common blues mating earlier and assumed it was one of them and nearly ignored it because of that. I'm glad I didnt now as I havnt a clue what this is. Its the 1st one I have ever seen . The nearest I can find in a book I have is an "Argus" but I leave this to you guys

Thanks in advance!!

Hi Aughie,

It's a female Common Blue Polyommatus icarus. The females are highly variable.

Good hunting.

Kind regards. Mark

Hello Aughie,

The two-tone fringe, clearly visible on the right-hand wings of your first photo, distinguishes it from other similar species.
