Re: Suggestions please
I reckon, best wide angle could be good. I've seen some really nice shots on here in the past that have the butterfly as the main subject, but also show a load of typical habitat. I know you have to get close, and that's not easy, but stick the camera on f22, with no more than a 35mm lens on, creep ...

Very Pleasant
You scored 14% in grumpiness!
Why did you even take this test? You're so sweet it's sickening. Get out of here, you're wasting my time!

Re: Etymology of kingfisher hypothesis
My wife's granny had a stuffed Kingfisher, in a 6X9 case on her mantelpiece, for forty years. It was blue and red (be it dull compared with life). She left it to me in her will, whereupon,,, on taking the case to pieces,,, it fell apart, and turned to dust. As did the Green Woodpecker. The herring g...

Re: Avatar change
Tip-top choice of cinematic brilliance there Zonda, Lynch has yet to produce anything that is less than first class celluloid enjoyment of the highest order (apart from 'Twin Peaks Firewalk With Me' which was shocking). Yeh,, i sort of agree with that, but we're all at our best when we're young. Ap...

Re: Personality types?
Yes! the sadness of all this doorstep evangelism is that they always send really good looking young females to spread the word. I have terrible trouble turning them away. Which i suppose,, is the whole point of the exercise. I usually keep my doorstep manner abrupt,,, but on one occasion,,,, oh! nev...

Avatar change
In line with Susie's recent avatar change (Lister), and keeping to the Film and Tele. theme. I thought that a change of avatar would be appropriate for the new season. Mine is a portrait of Jack Nance as Henry in David Lynch's 'Eraserhead'. A film i have always admired, and Henry is my avatar on sev...

Re: Personality types?
Firstly, i'd like to say that i didn't twig the Craig Charles avatar straight off. While not being overly thoughtful about it, at the back of my mind the question "why has Susie got a pic of Sherpa Tenzing as an avatar now?" has been repeating itself like cucumber. I agree with much that h...

Re: Manfrotto grip ball heads
What i am looking for is a simple heavy duty B&S for a monopod, to carry a 300mm lens. I'll swap my Manfrotto 322RC2 wrist breaker for anything suitable.

Re: Forest sell-off
I found Collard Hill a dreadful slog up from the bottom. Me too. But my ultimate test last year was the Giants hill circuit at Cerne Abbas. I did it 5 times, looking for non-existent Green HS. I did however cop for some really fresh Marsh Frits, on one of these occasions. Is Sand Point Buggy friend...

Re: Manfrotto grip ball heads
Well hush my mouth, and now i need to do that on mine..... How,,,, i have no idea.
Gary,,,, teach me.
Mine is a 322RC2, and i can''t get it to do that, which is what i bought it for.![Shocked ](./images/smilies/icon_eek.gif)
What i'll do is put it on a tripod and try to replicate your last pic of the whole, and post the out-come.
