Large White caterpillar?

Is this a large white caterpillar? Checking photos online and it looks similar, except the inverted yellow 'Y' on its head, also has white markings on its lower sides.
Maybe final instar?

Speckled Wood

Hello, Its been a while since I visited the forum, moved house etc... Anyhow, I was attending one of my usual favourite sites; Bishop Middleham Quarry, in Durham; when I come across a Speckled Wood, as you guys from up the north east know, Speckled Wood doesn't usually fly this far north :-) Global ...

I like the middle picture, brilliant!

Yeh isn't it difficult working with such a narrow depth of field...

I do find my tripod handy for some shots, especially when a butterfly or group of butterflies keep coming back to the same spot.

Here is my entry; a Lycaenidae, taken on 14th April 2007 on Geoje Island, Korea.

Was hoping to get out last weekend and take some photos but alas the weather was not good to us up in the north east!

I would like to see the recently reintroduced Large Blue more widespread. Would be nice for the Large Copper to be resident too! We might see migrants "sleeping over" with the climate change. One thing I have noticed living on the North East coast, when I was a young lad (and very much int...

Interesting infomation, I've been considering using flash this year. I can't afford a macro ring flash unit however.... I need a standard flash unit anyhoo so might experiment with that a bit. I tried a very similar thing last year Pete, 1/200 to 2/300 shutter priority but I didn't stop the exposure...

Hi Colin

Welcome to the forums, bit quiet at the moment, I think a lot of the members are hibernating until the spring :-)

I still haven't seen my first butterfly this year, looking forward to April!

Pete,

I think we agreed that we would all wait until 2008 due to other commitments etc.

I'm sure the others will see this post and clarify :-)

Yeh you could use one of the other focusing points, or manual focus :-) Assuming the butterfly has its wings open and I'm looking from above, I tend to focus on a point half way (in depth) between the closest and furthest away points. Usually half way across the forwing. Or, if you are focussing on ...
