Hi Adrian, In terms of Focussing, Flash/Preflash and Autofocus the DSLRs are just about identical to Film SLRs. Personally I use a Canon 300D with a Canon 100mm 2.8 USM Macro lens. I dont yet have a macro ring flash unit, but the 300D's built in flash is still nice for some extra light and does make...

Went to Bishop Middleham Quarry today, alas it was a bit overcast. Really nice place though. I did manage to get a few shots of some Ringlets, here is one of the reasonable ones. (I just couldnt obtain the depth of field I wanted with it being overcast): http://www.wayno.myby.co.uk/album/Butterflies...

Another Moth Larva
I cant seem to find an ID for this one either. It was hiding on the underside of a Buddleia leaf.
At first I thought it was a young Tiger Moth caterpillar...
Thanks in advance!

Pete, I think a lot of the spam postings would be prevented by allowing only forum members to post. I understand that this will make it more difficult for guests/new members to post ID questions for example. But it only takes a few mins to register. A cactus forum I visit a lot did this to solve the...

Newton Links, Northumberland
Today I popped up to Newton Links in Northumberland. The North Britain group of the Butterfly Conservation were there to meet for a walk about. :) The weather was a bit overcast and a little drizzle of rain at first, but it soon got brighter and the sun did come out eventually! Spotted many Small He...

They are usually little fat solitary catterpillars.

New Lens
Well at long last, I've ordered my Canon 100mm USM Macro Lens. Still using the 300d, I'll proberbly end up buying a s/h 20d off ebay next year... or save up for the 30d... Sooo hopefully I should produce some nice pics over the summer, especially considering I've been using the standard lens (18-55m...

I have a suggestion Pete, On the main ukbutterflies website the link to the forum is among the other links to take people to various parts of the site. It seems to be lost in there among them :) I'm wondering if we would get more visitors to the forum if you had a bigger link or a picture link etc.....

John, When I was sorting through my photos looking for one to post, I ended up redoing my website etc... (you know when you get carried away!) Here is a link - http://www.wayno.myby.co.uk Nothing too fancy, I'm still using the 18-55mm standard lens (hopefully getting the 100mm macro end of the month...
