Re: Butterflysaurus rex
Splendid shots of both those species, James, the Walls especially. They are both having a great Autumn down there on the Sussex Coast. I wonder what future that egg has? With the relatively benign climate of the coastal fringe, it might survive... They are reputed to do so by the sea near Bournemou...

Yes, they are the ones. I call that a cracking day out. Love the female Walls. I might try Tidemills tomorrow. All the best, Trevor. It would certainly be worth a look Trevor, I haven’t been back since but I’m sure there will be some Clouded Yellows there. The female Wall Browns were a treat, I muc...

Re: Butterflysaurus rex
The open-wing Brown Hairstreak is quite possibly the best I have ever seen anywhere, James. You see near-perfect individuals that never open up so completely, or scruffy ones that do. Simply amazing.  :) Dave Hello Dave, thanks yes I could hardly believe my eyes when I saw her si...

Great Silver-washed, James, especially that valezina - and the White Admirals are beautifully undamaged new individuals. Not easy to find in that state! :) Cheers, Dave Thanks Dave, I spent many hours in the woods trying to find fresh ones this year, not particularly easy in the very hot weather we...

Re: Pete Eeles
Hi Pete, When I saw your photo of the (Listrodomus nycthemerusis) wasp I did a double take because I'd seen an insect that looked very similar before. At first glance it could be easy to confuse the two so to avoid any misidentifications in the field I thought it might be worth showing it here. The ...

For me ,it looks like an eyed Hawkmoth, with second choice Lime. At Dungeness recently a Hummingbird Hawk caterpillar was also found in the moth trap. Re: Winged Insect and a caterpillar
Hi David, I think your fly could be a - Twin-lobed Deerfly - Chrysops relictus.
And the caterpillar might be an early instar Privet hawk moth.
Best wishes,
James

Wonderful male Purple Hairstreak, James. It's been a brilliant year for them, I found them down low on 8 out of 11 early morning visits to Abbots Wood, but not as fresh as yours. I also like your Dark Green Fritillary, great pose. Keep well, Trevor. Many thanks Trevor, yes seeing Purple Hairstreaks...
