Winged Insect and a caterpillar

I would be grateful for any help with ID of the attached.
The caterpillar appeared in my moth trap which seems odd. I believe that it may be a lime hawkmoth. Any other suggestions?
I am completely stumped by the winged insect which flew into our living room - first thought was a bee until we looked at it.
Both seen in early July in West Oxfordshire.

Hi David, I think your fly could be a - Twin-lobed Deerfly - Chrysops relictus.

And the caterpillar might be an early instar Privet hawk moth.

For me ,it looks like an eyed Hawkmoth, with second choice Lime. At Dungeness recently a Hummingbird Hawk caterpillar was also found in the moth trap. (See sightings section ,September )

On closer inspection I think Allan is right, I didn’t see the caterpillars pimpled appearance on my phone screen.
