Texas

About a year and a half ago I went to Texas on a birding holiday. Although at the time I was a lot more interested in migrant warblers than butterflies, I stumbled across a couple and took there picture. The quality is not great as they were taken with a small point and shoot (I was carrying a teles...

I often walk around Rickmansworth lakes and on a sunny day this time of year there are still a number of common darters around although they look a bit faded (similar to the one Denise photographed). The only other dragons still about are migrant hawkers. The weekend before last I was convinced I sa...

butterflies in Scotland

This item was on the BBC web site this morning. One of the facts it relates is that there are 33 breeding butterflies in Scotland (seems like a lot to me, but what do I know) anyway read it for yourselves

I've just ordered one at what I think is a cheap price (this is a comparative term) :) Its for birding this winter and possibly for next summers butterflies and dragons. However due to the postal strike it could be a while getting here :(

for sale

Would it be appropriate to have a section of the forum for the members to sell cameras, lenses etc? If not a completely new section then perhaps the general or the photographic section could be used. I'm asking as I have a Canon macro lens that is surplus to my requirements.
Cheers

I don't shoot raw so this is not from experience, but my understanding is that it enables you to recover back to the original (as eccles said) but also when you process the image you can exaggerate different tonal ranges i.e. you can boost the detail in the highlight areas. For example, when you use...
