Where are the Red Admirals?
Where are the Red Admirals?
Hello everyone
I wonder how many of you have seen a Red Admiral this year. We have all these lovely Painted Ladies, but I still haven't seen any Red Admirals, even though they can survive our winters these days. I think this is the longest I've ever had to wait for my first sighting of atalanta; usually I see them in May. I hope someone can report that they are here in good numbers, and that I am so far just being unlucky. Looking forward to your response(s).
Best wishes
Deano.

I have seen none on my local dog walking route, I expect I will see more once the Buddlia in the garden flowers.

Re: Where are the Red Admirals?
I've seen a few around this year, mainly a few weeks ago just as the first of the painted ladies started to arrive.

Funny, I was thinking the same. Not seen one so far this year and I've been to a few lovely sites in the last few weeks too...
To butterfly meadows, chalk downlands and leafy glades; to summers eternal.

Hi Deano,
Red Admirals have not crossed my path in any great numbers so far this year, just a handful of sightings in Sussex. They are around though!

19th March x1 Sherwood Rough.
15th April x1 Marsh Farm, Binsted, x1 Binsted Wood.
18th June x1 Hill Farm, Oakshott.
19th June x1 Littlehampton golf course.
20th June x1 Littlehampton bridge.

Re: Where are the Red Admirals?
I saw about a dozen today on a walk near Goring (along the Thames!). All very fresh - so must be just emerging.
Cheers,
