Shame about another talented person being misled by Canon hype  but your photos are excellent all the same.

I quite agree - stunning images indeed!

Not sure why you ask this, Marcin, so don't take me the wrong way! But if it's because not many people comment on pictures that are posted, rest assured they are viewed and enjoyed - and thanks for posting them. I'm so used to first class photos appearing in these forums that I only comment if I've really got something to add, and I think there are probably plenty of others like me.

For the record, there are 669 registered users. Some joined just to ask a question about a particular butterfly (I've done that myself on snake and moth forums) while others check in several times a day. I don't know how that makes it rate in the popularity stakes but I do think that the members we have make this the best butterfly site on the internet! :D Pete must take all the credit for setting it up and managing it but it's contributors like yourself who make it what it is.

Just noticed loads of people responded to your other posts, Marcin, so I probably misunderstood your question! I do that a lot!

I agree with the Dodger!

Sadly no Marcin, but I think that we should. (A few UKB members get together unofficially and enjoy a day out.)

Hi Marcin (and thanks for responding, Guy and Rodge - you beat me to it!),

Currently, this website endorses membership with BC and attending their field trips and events. We've not (yet) arranged any UK Butterflies-specific field events - but it is definitely something worth considering. The only UK Butterflies event organised so far was a photography workshop earlier this year (and that we plan re-running in 2009). It was oversubscribed (we originally catered for 30 and had to extend to 50+), so the interest is definitely there! So I can imagine a UK Butterflies series of events where one member volunteers to lead the field trip, with others then registering interest.

In the meantime, I suggest you connect with people in your area - just post on the forum to find who's about! Another enhancement could be a map showing where members are located. I know that quite a few acquaintances have been made through this website, with people meeting up informally.

Thanks for the feedback.

Cheers,

- Pete

Marcin,
We had one formal get-together this year (early on) as a Photographic Workshop. Several people gave talks, primarily on butterfly photography. There was also a really good critique session where photos were shown and constructively criticised.
It was a hugely enjoyable event, and great to meet so many like-minded people.
We have twice had informal meetings at Glapthorne for the Black Hairstreak and a pint. Again very good fun, and (for some) a chance to see a special insect.
Mostly we seem to have informal small meetings, some by design, some by accident.
I have met about 20 of the most regular contributors on this site, and some have become very firm friends. I am sure others will too.
I think the nature of this site is that the formal meetings will continue to happen, and I have high hopes of another Photography Workshop. However, a posting with "I am going to Martin Down on Saturday - anyone fancy meeting up?" will probably get a favourable response.
Looking forward to meeting you soon, and I must say I love your photos-
Roger

Hi Marcin,

I felt that I had to add to the comments already made in respect of your photographs. I would think that you must be very proud of them. I don't have any specialist knowledge of art, photography, or anything else come to that :) , I just know what I like when I see it - and I love them and am very envious that I can't, currently, come anywhere close to matching them. Maybe one day!!

I find your work, and that of so many of the other very talented photographers using this site, very inspirational. I looked at your article on pixalo, via the link above, and printed it off for future reference (hope that was o.k.). I, personally, have had some very constructive feedback on some of my photo's but I am just a novice and need all the help I can get, you on the other hand .................

Keep it up - if I haven't commented in the past it's because I'm too busy drooling over them and dreaming of the day when I can come anywhere close to producing such fine work.

Kind regards,

Sylvia.

Great pics as always Marcin, I really like the first Small copper. I haven't seen that many this year, 4 or 5 at the most.
