Re: Advice please: Bedford Purlieus for WLH
I was there on Sunday morning and I have spent six hours there today. There are still quite a few White-letter Hairstreaks about, most are a bit tatty but there are still one or two really tidy ones. They were coming down to the Wild Marjoram on and off right up to 16:00 when we left. Out of interes...

Re: August Sighting 2010
[quote="Jonathan Evans"]A recent blog entry on another website suggests Lulworth Skipper are now hard to find at Bindon Hill, and numbers are very reduced generally this year :(. I certainly haven't seen many reports of sightings this year, save those emanating from Durlston Country Park, ...

Re: White Letter Hairstreak
There's alot of luck involved with getting good images/sightings of this species, personally I've always found Fermyn Woods to be an excellent site for these. Park at the ride gate opposite the Welland Glider-club site and walk down the ride until you get to the first crossing of rides, the young El...

Re: Purple Emperors are out...
Was at Fermyn from 09:30 until 15:30 today, saw a total of 7 Purple Emperors, three in Fermyn itself and 4 in Lady Wood, three of which were on the floor taking minerals from horse dung. ![Very Happy :D](./images/smilies/icon_biggrin.gif)

Re: July 2009 Sightings
Hmmm. Having seen a "nigrina" on the Hants sightings page (http://www.hantsiow-butterflies.org.uk/sightings.htm) for 28th June, I wonder if mine is too? Thoughts? Cheers, - Pete It looks pretty similar to this one that I photographed at Fermyn woods on Tuesday Pete, I looked at both in bo...

Re: Purple Emporers
Sorry to slightly sidetrack but could someone let me know exactly where the White-letter Hairstreak are likely to be in Fermyn Woods? If you park at the gateway opposite the Welland valley gliding club and walk down the ride the White-letter Hairstreaks were in the area where the first track crosse...

Re: June 2009 Sightings
Fermyn woods was excellent today, a great show of Butterflies. I lost count of the number of Purple Emperors that I saw over the 6 hours I was there, they were still coming to the ground at 3 o'clock this afternoon. Also seen were excellent numbers of White Admiral including a single of the aberrant...

Re: Purple Emporers
A fantastic day at Fermyn woods today, at one point you couldn't walk more than 20 yards before you were virtually stepping on a Purple Emperor taking minerals from the track, I lost count of how many I saw in the six hours I was there, they were still coming down to the ground at 3 o'clock this aft...

Re: June 2009 Sightings
I'm so glad to see your photos and what lovely photos they are, nice size and perfect focus, the blackberry flowers are coming out at last that'll bring the butterflies in. Shirley Thanks very much Shirley, I was really pleased that they posed for images so well, all that was needed was a bit of pa...

Re: Not Lepidoptera (dragons!)
I spent last weekend at Strumpshaw fen in Norfolk, as well as seeing loads of Swallowtails there were also a good number of Norfolk Hawkers on territory in the meadows around the ditches and with a bit of patience they were posing nicely for the cameras. These have to be my favourite Dragon, such an...

Re: June 2009 Sightings
A couple of Black Hairstreak images taken at Glapthorn this morning, the total count seen was well into double figures, by far the best I have ever seen there.

Re: June 2009 Sightings
I visited Glapthorn this morning and was treated to great sightings of several Black Hairstreaks including a coupled pair
all on the usual Dewberry bushes and being most accomodating for the camera.
If someone can tell me how. I'll post some of my images, got some real beautys![Very Happy :D](./images/smilies/icon_biggrin.gif)

Swallowtail
Hi,
I'm looking for advice on the best place/reserve/ time etc... to photograph Swallowtails in Norfolk.
There seems to be so much conflicting information as to which is the best reserve for this species so I am really hoping someone here can put me on the right path.
Fourwings.
