Swallowtail

Hi,

I'm looking for advice on the best place/reserve/ time etc... to photograph Swallowtails in Norfolk.
There seems to be so much conflicting information as to which is the best reserve for this species so I am really hoping someone here can put me on the right path.

A good site is Strumpshaw Fen. Specifically, park in the RSPB reserve car park then go back to the road, turn left, and take the first lane on the left. At the end of the lane is Marsh Cottage, where I've never failed to see Swallowtail nectaring on garden plants!

For time of year - take a look at the dates of the photos on the Swallowtail page.

Additionally Hickling Broad NNR is superb. I go every year around June 6th and have never failed with over 30 counted one year. It's signposted as the Swallowtail walk from the visitors centre. Also very easy to see Norfolk Hawker, Water Vole, Chinese Water Deer and Cranes.

Just a note regarding the best time - before visiting Hickling last year I was advised to wait until the third week of June for the best chance of seeing swallowtails. There were certainly a few about, though not always within photographing range! There is all sorts of other interesting wildlife to be seen. Look out for lizards sunning on the board walks.
