Re: Any Mountain Ringlet sightings yet ?

We struggled at Cold Pike a couple of years ago, walked all round that area but couldn't fnd any. Last year however at Fleetwith/Honister we got quite a few, about 10 if I remember correctly so that is where we'll be going Saturday morning, it looks like it's going to cloud over in the afternoon. Go...

Re: Any Mountain Ringlet sightings yet ?

Looking at the weather we'll also be trying on Saturday, Sunday is looking wet at the moment. Might see you up there Mark. Which site are you trying ?

Any Mountain Ringlet sightings yet ?

Hopefully as always weather permitting we're trying for Mountain Ringlet on Saturday at Honister, I've not heard of any reports this year yet. I had them on June 9th last year although they were early.
Does anyone know if there have been any seen in the lakes yet ?

Cheers

Re: Swallowtails in Norfolk - best site ?

We managed to get half a dozen Swallowtails at Strumpshaw on the reserve, 2 or 3 from the Visitor Centre Screen hide and the others from the Meadow Trail wher I also managed to get the hoped for Norfolk Hawker, wasn't sure where the Swallowtail 'cottage' was.

Re: Swallowtails in Norfolk - best site ?

Cheers Alex,
the weather looks good this coming weekend so hopefully I'll be heading over to Norfolk. I did actually notice lots of photo's taken at Strumpshaw Fen from the gallery after my posting, I'd actually forgotten about that site.
Thanks again

Swallowtails in Norfolk - best site ?

I was hoping to take a couple of fellow butterfliers to see Mountain Ringlet this coming weekend at Fleetwith Pass - I had plenty there on 9th June last year, but if there are no reports before then I may switch the plans to try for Swallowtail in Norfolk. I have never tried for this species before ...

Re: Recommended sites near Lulworth Cove May 24th-31st

After a fairly wet week in Dorset I didn't manage to get many butterfly trips in. We were staying at Durdle Door campsite so I had Lulworth Skipper, Dingy Skipper and Adonis Blue within 10 mins of our camp. A visit to Durlston produced more Dingy Skipper and Adonis Blue but none of the hoped for Gri...

Re: Recommended sites near Lulworth Cove May 24th-31st

Many thanks for both replies, I was going to visit Durlston again anyway, but looking at the weather forecast it doesn't look like it'll be before Monday :(
Hopefully it'll brighten up later in the week.

Cheers

Recommended sites near Lulworth Cove May 24th-31st

Hi, I visited Weymouth last year with my family and managed to get to a few sites for buterflies, namely Cerne Abbas where I saw Adonis Blue and Marsh Frit, Durlston CP was a little bit disappointing, it was sunny but there was a stiff breeze on the day I visited, I managed to connect with Small Blu...

The 'Sites' area has been sabotaged !!!

I have just been checking out the sites around Oxon/Bucks and when I clicked on the link I found where you can 'Rate This Site' there have been a few 'non-butterflies' have been added and 5-stars given to most of the sites :?

Another 'Is this an Essex Skipper ?'

I'm almost certain this is an Essex Skipper that I photographed at Barnack Hills and Holes near Peterborough yesterday after spending a couple of fantastic hours at Fermyn Woods with unbelievable views of Purple Emperor there. I just need someone with more experience to confirm it please as I've nev...

Hi Simon, sorry for the late reply, I assume you are in Ambleside by now. For the Fleetwith M. Ringlets you park at the Slate Quarry / Youth Hostel on the B5289 and take the footpath behind the Slate Quarry (signposted 'Haystacks') you then walk up the zig-zag path for a few minutes before it straig...

It could be busy tomorrow, I'll be paying my first visit to this site tomorrow morning as well. Both Purple Emperor and White Admiral will be new for me and the other 5 travelling down with me. Very hopeful after reading the last few posts.

Hi Simon, we had good numbers c10 on 9th June at Fleetwith, Honister Pass. It was cloudy on arrival at the site but seconds after the sun appeared the M Ringlets appeared from everywhere. http://upload9.postimage.org/54460/Mountain_Ringlet_Surfbird.jpg If you require further directions let me know. ...

Grizzled Skipper / Brown Argus - Oxfordshire ?

With Saturday looking good, I'm planning on heading down to Oxfordshire. Will pay a visit to Whitecross Green Wood and I was hoping I may still get Grizzled Skipper and / or Brown Argus at some sites nearby. Are they still on the wing and if so, which are the best sites. With species flying early th...
