always look good on a fork handle,

mine wasn't in snow either, just a good hard frost down at keyhaven.
they look as round as a ball when its cold!

mmmm, thats an interesting suggestion misha. i was with phil budd at the time who knows his stuff and identified it as small copper, we also didn't see any holly blue around but there were several small copper on the locality on beaulieu heath that day in the summer. as the two cats are very similar...

susie, in answer to your question "do painted ladys ever feed on rotton fruit"? ive never witnessed it, but a sighting has just been posted on the hants iow bc web site reporting 2 painted lady along with red admiral and comma "all" feeding on rotton apples and pears. so i guess ...

on yet another windy but sunny day down here on the south coast,
in highcliffe, in a garden on hebe again was one nectaring painted lady. :D


alittle worn now but still flying strong in the winds.
