nearly 100gms heavier than my old body's.

Blimey - my body is about 40 Kg heavier than it used to be...........
Oh - I seem to be at cross purposes!!

I know what you mean, Gary, especially when you add a heavy lens.
My 200mm macro weighs in at a hefty 1190gm; it needs a good counterweight!
And that set-up also needs a good lens collar to balance the whole outfit, plus a rigid monopod and or tripod as the lightweight ones tend to wobble a bit with over 2 kg on top!

PS Roger - Please don't start on old bodies; I have a draw full of old SLR's, box-camera and old Kodak's...
...oh, not those bodies.....

LOL mine too Roger. I am a full grown male of the chunkier kind, and i need a big old body for my bigmos. I hate piffly little controls, buttons, and switches. I've got big chunky parsnip fingers, and my mobile phone is 18" long. I want to use a hammer when i switch from manual to autofocus, or alter the ISO. It's good for a guys soul to have something fairly big in his hands when off out hunting. Hope i haven't turned anyone on.

That is because, everyone, of the amount of photographic kit Roger carries around!
(Though a substantial amount of that IS in sandwiches

)

(And that's to say nothing of the stuff Rose has to lug around!)

Fantastic Robin Gary, great shot with lovely colour.

I liked your Mrs Blackbird too Zond, especially the ivy in the background. Why did it break any rules though?

I may have already posted this story but your parsnip fingers remind me of when my uncle started taking guitar lessons. He was a builder by trade and asked his tutor after a week or so how he was doing. His tutor replied that considering he was trying to play with a pound of sausages he wasn't doing too bad...

Well,, they have strict codes of practice in UK Bird photographers. No messy backgrounds is just one. Bigmos showed how soft he was fully extended, at Radipole reed beds today. However, i'm still a virgin bird snapper, and i'm sure i focused through a reed.

Hya Nick, i ended up with a set of 4. They were softish, at 500mm on the Sigma, but i printed them off, and they look great at 6X4. I think i can coax a bit more quality out of this lens by shooting at f8 or f11 at the long end, and pulling it back to 400 when i can. The OS outshines a lot of big name lenses. I'm still shooting jpeg too.

If you shoot in NEF, read in ViewNX (free from Nikon and it is quite good for basic stuff now) and tweak and export as JPEG. it may improve the JPEG quality you can get, I would say. But that shot is great anyway ...

Zonda, lovley shot! Just wish I had a long enough lens for birds, but not so. However I did see a good sight yesterday morning. I was in forest near my house and saw a Jay being chased by a pair of Ravens, as the jay landed in a tree nearby, a red squirrel came running down the treee quite fast and ran off, making a small flock of blue tits fly off over my head. It was about 2C, but there was alot of life in the forest.

mine wasn't in snow either, just a good hard frost down at keyhaven.
