Re: What makes a winning photograph?

Hi Gruditch,

Probably not very clear, like most of my photographs, but I can recommend a good dictionary if you feel it would help!

Re: What makes a winning photograph?

As very much a ‘new boy’ to the photographic scene, I have been giving some thought to what I like to see in a nature photograph rather than what might win a competition. I was particularly interested in a recent photograph, published on the site, which, somewhat heretically, dared to show an in-foc...

Re: Wasp mimic?

Thanks, James,

Looking at other photographs on the net, it certainly appears to be zonaria. A fearsome beastie, nontheless!!

Re: Asdon Rowant, Oxfordshire

Hi Nigel, Just back from Aston Rownant and there were many SSSs. Also CHB,CB, BA, MW etc. Cross to the south side of the motorway and carry on past the main carpark, which is in the woods on the left. Almost at the end of the woodland - 200 M past the carpark entrance - there is a small, muddy pull ...

Atavar

More help please! Can anyone explain (in VERY simple language) how to set the above fragment as my atavar. At the moment it is too big by about 12 wotsits.
Sorry to be such a dummy.

Hungry Hornet

http://i334.photobucket.com/albums/m436/Antonymoo/Butterflies/Hornetdevouringbee1.jpg Butterfly only readers, look away now. Out this afternoon, I saw an enormous Hornet flying over some brambles. It suddenly pounced on an unfortunate Honey Bee, stung it to death and proceeded to consume it in doub...

Re: HBF and DGF

HI Pete, I'm sure you're right. It was the colour of the back one that fooled me. I was concentrating on photographing the obvious HBF at the front, and sort of assumed that the back one was a DGF. On second look, the third spot is definitely out of line, but, as you say, a very dark shade for a mal...

HBF and DGF

http://i334.photobucket.com/albums/m436/Antonymoo/Butterflies/DGFandHBF.jpg Hi guys, Just back from Witherslack and Arnside, trying to separate DGF and HBF by their uppersides. Many more HBFs than I expected, and freshly emerged examples of both species. Missed a superb mating pair of HBFs due to s...

Sorry Gruditch, I'm not very good with numbers (or asterisks!). It was a Canon 400 or 450D and very nice too!

Re: July 10th > Onwards

Hi Y'all, I had a walk at Aqualate Park (Salop) today. Between spits of rain I managed to find one female Purple Hairstreak, high in an Oak. Then, just by the car, a perfect pair of GVWs. They posed nicely, and it quite made my day! http://i334.photobucket.com/albums/m436/Antonymoo/Butterflies/Green...

Re: Net Rage

Well done, you guys!

This is the eighteenth reply on the subject (if I can count posts better than I count asterisks!) and still no sign of the descent into malign and vituperative incivility, which was anticipated. What a gentlemanly and ladylike group we aurelians must be.
