More help please! Can anyone explain (in VERY simple language) how to set the above fragment as my atavar. At the moment it is too big by about 12 wotsits.
Sorry to be such a dummy.

Hi Gwenhwyfar,

I won't ask how you did that - just many thanks.

Hi Antonym,

You've obviously managed to crop and resize. You just need to make sure you resize so that it's 12 wotsits less than it currently is :)

Cheers,

Hi Pete,

In fact Gwenhyfar did it all for me - I just copied her version and - Hey Presto - in it went. I still have not the foggiest idea how she did it.

'Cropping' is cutting the rectangular frame you want out of the whole picture. I suspect you did that yourself when you made the avatar that didn't fit. It usually involves dragging a rectangle with the mouse on the picture and clicking 'crop' either before or after you do this (depending on the software).

Independent of cropping is 'resizing' or 'redimensioning'. This shrinks or expands the whole picture to a designated number of pixels across (or vertically). You will find this option somewhere in one of the menu bars of your image processing software, though exactly where will depend on which programme you use. By default, most programmes retain the aspect ratio of the original, so you just change one dimension and the other automatically adjusts to keep the proportions.

Some of the free versions of software that come with computers require you to upgrade to a paid version before you can crop and resize, but the software that comes with your camera should already be a paid version.

Is that any clearer?
