Re: Orange Tip
I went a bit mad and upgraded my dSLR from a 300D to a 40D. I don't think there was any need as the 300D is a good camera... but I do like my gadgets! I also bought a new lens... I have a Sigma 150mm macro at the moment, which is superb, but I find it a bit limiting compositionally, so I've complime...

Re: Orange Tip
Already?? I've not seen a single butterfly in 2008
I woke up to snow again this morning!I'm so jealous! I took delivery of a new camera and lens last night, but looking ahead at the weather here, I can't see when I'm going to be able to practise!

Re: To photoshop or not to photoshop ??
Hi Paul... In my opinion, one should only make the changes in photoshop (or other brands, Pete!) that you could make in a darkroom with film. I think this introduces a challenge to the digital photographer that makes them concentrate more when composing and executing the original image, which will i...

Re: What are your early memories of butterflies?
My brother and I used to patrol the neighbours buddlia too. My dad built us a "butterfly aviary" in the back garden against the wall of the house. I remember clearly the butterflies we used to find... Peacock, Painted Lady, Red Admiral, Large & Small White, Small Tortoiseshell, Holly B...

Re: March 2008 entries "Butterflies and People"
Taken years ago on my old Samsung Digimax... I'm pushing the theme a little here. Does it include Butterflies and Dead People??

Re: Has spring arrived?
Still rubbish oopt North... not a single butterfly in 08, yet! However, the reptiles have been a little more kind and I've seen adder, slow worm and common lizard. The fieldfare and redwing have gone from the back field, the curlew have been piping, the robins have been fighting and the sparrows are...

Re: Early morning photography
Gary's right Polly. In my limited experience, different species behave differently, but their behaviour can be predicted so you don't have to spend either hours searching, or hours awake in vain! Take blues for example... albeit common, silver-studded, brown argus, chalkhill, etc, I find the rule is...

Re: 2008 Photographic Workshop
Agree with all the above. I made the 520 mile round trip and thought it was thoroughly worth it!
This is a request for all the northerners to get together and arrange something similar!
Thanks Pete, Mike, Adrian, Maurice, Lynn and Roger!

Re: Mastermind on Monday 11th Feb, BBC2, 1930
I got a staggering (staggeringly more than I expected) 15/17! I've always watched Mastermind and thought the specialist questions were nigh impossible and have been really impressed with contestants that have done well... but having heard questions about a subject I'm interested in, I wonder if all ...

Re: Two new projects
my problem is that the ground is so fertile grass just takes over. Have you tried planting yellow rattle with a wild flower mix?* Apparently it suppresses the growth of grass, allowing less competitive species to flourish... seems a little easier than digging a great big hole! *As recommended in BB...

I do think though that the prospect of an orgy of criticism might just defeat that object! You're probably right... The thinking behind the idea was to help me (and others) understand what it is about photos that doesn't see them get many votes. Hearing people debate the qualities and nits would he...

4. I'd like us to think about creating materials (presentations etc.) that can be reused - we may want to do this a couple of times a year. Assuming we'll have use of a digital projector and a laptop (and if not, I can provide these), I'm happy to work with the content providers to produce some goo...
