Lots of Meadow Browns about, even on the peas in the garden, I've noticed on the side view that there are two spots.
A female, a male and the side view of the female.
I am also confused but I am quite sure that we will be informed about it to-day.
Anyway, to allow the Thistles and Nettles to grow proved worth it, next door farmer wanted to sprayed the lot and I said they were for the butterflies and I was right.

Pete, you were spot on with the Thistle theory, it was so hot this afternoon but this evening it was cooler and I found one in a little type of tent and one climbing up the stem. Also were two Ladybirds doing their own thing and a lot of Blackfly which were being eaten by ants. DSC05293 (Small).jpg ...
Having searched in vain for any caterpillars of the Painted Lady I read in a Collins Butterfly and Moth book, that the caterpillar feeds on various Thistles, Nettles, Mallows and many other plants, it draws leaves together with silk and feeds inside this protective tent, so they will not be easy to ...
Roger, I don't poke fun at anyone and Ham made a casual remark about snakes and I just made a reply at how it is, yes I don't like snakes but I like butterflies. I enjoy being able to go out and about looking for butterflies even in this heat and enjoy putting a field to hay and planting wild flower...
The Meadow Browns are in my field, I'll get some photos this evening when the snake has gone back to the pond, by the way 'Ham' snakes hibinate. Anyway its too hot for wellies so I went onto the cliff path, very hot but very good as I saw a few butterflies. DSC05185 (Small).JPG A battered Female Com...
At last I saw a beautiful Small Tortoiseshell from the kitchen window rush out and I had got the wrong camera, I'd taken the compact and somehow it wouldn't work, such a moment lost. Anyway the Meadow Browns are in the hay field and so is a snake I was told my a passing lady so now its wellis time. ...
What on earth had attached those Lady birds, I could send you Nettles young and fresh, tons of bird foot trefoil, stacks of different plants, the only thing I cannot send you are Butterflies, because I haven't seen any, its been baking hot to-day and still I haven't seen any, I really have no idea w...
I'm so glad to see your photos and what lovely photos they are, nice size and perfect focus, the blackberry flowers are coming out at last that'll bring the butterflies in.

Could there be a list of plants that we could buy and plant for these rare species, there are wildflower farms where stock can be bought. Last year I planted 100 small plugs of Birds foot trefoil and I have the biggest patches ever now in my field and I hope that the Commom Blue butterlies will find...

I forgot to mention that a friend of mine in the next village had a butterfly land on her sleeve and she described it as golden yellow and a red spot and to me it sounds like a Clouded Yellow she said she was tickled pink, I was a bit blue having only seen really tatty Painted Ladies that day.
