Theres something very odd about that Comma David .The tips of the forewing show a very whitish patch ,for me very reminiscent of Small Tort and the inner section of the hindwings also very ST like with the darkened inner section (closest to the body) . Things are beginning to look very Autumnal around my local patch .Rides full to brimming with Devils bit Scabious (including a few pure White ones !) a fair number of Comma ,Red Admiral ,Small and Green-veined Whites ...........Meadow Browns all but finished and the odd Gatekeeper and Silver -Wash ....

Many thanks for your thoughts Aeschna 5 and Bugboy ,and thanks for looking ! I,m leaning towards Slender myself ,and as you,ve suggested Bugboy ,head shape and central leg shape are the main pointers ,and from what i can make out from the poor photo attached .........looks good for Slender ............

Some superb Brown Hairstreak shots there Dave .............nicely captured ! I really must try harder for them next season !
Love the pale winged Copper also ,funnily enough i found one (actually 2 !) almost identical to your one this year at Dungeness .........Nice one !

I wonder if anyone out there "does " Grasshoppers ? butterflying was a bit slow on my local patch ,and i,d noticed as i walked about i was disturbing numerous Grasshoppers . Its a pretty good spot for them in this particular section of the wood ,and its an excellent spot for the scarce Woo...

Eyes Peeled Goldie ! Cloudies now turning up in various parts of Kent . 1or2 in Orlestone (Faggs wood ) up to 10 reported from New Downs ,Sandwich bay and also on isle of Grain and Oare Marshes ( I think ?) ..................your best bet ,the lower path ,below the sea wall heading towards Birchingt...

Yes they are (abberant ) thats actually what drew me to it ..........it seemed to flash pale wings as it flew ,and its forewings have double pupilled spots and a pale colour as in AB; Semi-intermedia. .....................It was very striking !

A few more bits and pieces from this weekends trips out . At Temple Ewell I had a good look around for Silver -Spots ,but they seem to have had a pretty poor season and i only managed to find very few ,most were well past their sell by date .........but there were a couple in reasonable nick. Set off early this morning ,to look for Wartbiter Cricket at Lydden /Temple Ewell ,they were re-introduced a few years back after disappearing in the late 70,s( I Think !) they,re little devils to locate and as yet i,ve still to find one ! Came in at the Temple Ewell end with the idea to wander down...

Yes Dave and Dave ,the Dungeness Coppers are tough little chaps ,and i,m surprised that they are around in such numbers after last seasons crash.................Great to see them ! Haven,t seen anything of Hoggers now for about 3 years .I generally used to bump into him somewhere around ,but no .......
