Yes ,as you say Bugboy reasonable numbers were noted in Kent earlier on ,and like yourself i was lucky enough to see probably around three at the well publicised spot near the Dover Patrol monument at St. Margarets. I know that a freshly emerged female was released there later on reared from a larva...

Hello David , You say its not possible David .......but it does occur ie; AB;Polonus a naturally occuring hybrid between two closely related species also in our photo library there are several mating (cross matings ) i do agree its very unlikely ...........but for maybe not impossible. Theres something very odd about that Comma David .The tips of the forewing show a very whitish patch ,for me very reminiscent of Small Tort and the inner section of the hindwings also very ST like with the darkened inner section (closest to the body) . Things are beginning to look very Autumnal around my local patch .Rides full to brimming with Devils bit Scabious (including a few pure White ones !) a fair number of Comma ,Red Admiral ,Small and Green-veined Whites ...........Meadow Browns all but finished and the odd Gatekeeper and Silver -Wash ....

Many thanks for your thoughts Aeschna 5 and Bugboy ,and thanks for looking ! I,m leaning towards Slender myself ,and as you,ve suggested Bugboy ,head shape and central leg shape are the main pointers ,and from what i can make out from the poor photo attached .........looks good for Slender ............

Some superb Brown Hairstreak shots there Dave .............nicely captured ! I really must try harder for them next season !
Love the pale winged Copper also ,funnily enough i found one (actually 2 !) almost identical to your one this year at Dungeness .........Nice one !

I wonder if anyone out there "does " Grasshoppers ? butterflying was a bit slow on my local patch ,and i,d noticed as i walked about i was disturbing numerous Grasshoppers . Its a pretty good spot for them in this particular section of the wood ,and its an excellent spot for the scarce Woo...

Eyes Peeled Goldie ! Cloudies now turning up in various parts of Kent . 1or2 in Orlestone (Faggs wood ) up to 10 reported from New Downs ,Sandwich bay and also on isle of Grain and Oare Marshes ( I think ?) ..................your best bet ,the lower path ,below the sea wall heading towards Birchingt...
