Which Skipper?

Out today in Northern Gloucestershire and came across a few of these. Is it a large or a small skipper, (or something else entirely)?

Re: April 2009 Lepidoptera Sightings

Yesterday nothing at all. Today my first GVW and a Holly Blue. Plus saw a Comma and a small tortoiseshell. Haven't seen a peacock yet but have seen a Brimstone or two.

Re: Can someone recommend an idiot proof camera

Even if the manual is on a CD, you can't read it if you don't have a computer! My parents fall into this category. After contacting Canon CS they were eventually passed on to another company who printed it out, loose leaf A4. Even then they would have been charged for it until my father explained ag...

Butterflies near Stirling, Scotland

I'll be staying for a week at Stirling University first week in August (Sat-Sat) so if anybody can give any recommendations on what I should be looking out for.

At least this year at home we've had decent weather. Last year it was no drinking water and everywhere flooded (I live in Tewkesbury) :D

Re: April Butterflies

Same place as yesterday but a few hours earlier. The Commas and the Peacocks were fighting over the best bits. A rather tired looking Brimstone occasionally dropped by stopping to refuel once. Then a male orange tip appeared to make my day. Finally I spotted something blue flying past, which I assum...

Re: April Butterflies

Spring has finally arrived. A handful of peacock basking in the grass, what I believe to be a Comma sitting a couple of feet in front of me before vanishing again. A solitary small tortoiseshell, a couple of large whites and a couple of green veined whites. Couple of weeks ago spotted a Brimstone cr...

Depends on how much you want to use it. For high throughput get a laser printer. For test prints, a cheap ink jest will do. Otherwise take it down your local photo shop and get it done properly. A decent mid range printer will cost you £50-100. For that price you can get a lot of HQ prints at a phot...

Do all the things I intended doing last year which I never managed. eg getting decent pictures of a female orange tip. Try and improve on my once per year viewing of a painted lady. The ironic thing this year it was sitting on the pavement soaking up the sunshine a couple of yards in front of me! Do...

Well since I don't have an dSLR or the Sigma 150mm... Although my existing camera does have Anti-shake (Minolta Z5) in fixed macro mode (62mm APO) you do need to get a bit close.

IS in Camera or IS in lens?

Is it best to use the image stabalisation on the camera or that on the lens? Obviously you can't use both at the same time. Since IS must add to the cost, weight and size of a lens does anybody know of a macro lens of the same image quality of the Sigma 150mm which doesn't include IS?

Well since I haven't yet joined BC you could almost I didn't join because this site is so good. I will join this year once only the medical problems clear up. Only reason I didn't join last year was I wan't to join before the season so I could get to know people beforehand. The only other question i...

Last year I saw 17 species of butterflies, this year only 16. On the other hand I have seen many more of some species. This year has been fantastic for holly blues. I live near Tewkesbury and I suspect the flooding has had a bad effect on the gatekeeper and meadow brown populations. On the other han...

Out walking and spotted a few red admirals, a pair of speckled woods, one of which looked very tatty. Plus a couple of commas basking in the afternoon sunshine.

Hi and welcome too. Just wondering if I should venture outdoors to see if there are any butterflies still alive in my part of the world. Saw something brownish yesterday, but couldn't keep track of it when it flew over the busy main road :(
