Having used both styles 55-250 and 100 macro cannon i feel it almost can depend on the butterfly because some types with let you get near e.g large skipper, hairstreaks when on ground and other you really do need a long lenses i find like filtaries. just my take on it

Graylings at Thursley Common

Heard that Thursley Common has grayling but the surrey bc page is a bit of a nightmare to find out if there been any sighting for this year and was wondering where the best spot to see them

Strangly the best blace i seen 2nd brood common blues this year is the flower garden at the olympic park (help its stays that good for nature after the games)

Upper thames BC walk to find Brown Hairstreak failed to get the target species but got a good number of other species with Large, Small, Essex Skipper, Small Cooper, brown argus, GV, Large White, Peacocks, Comma brimstones, Speckled Wood and lots of Purple Hairstreak. A trip to try and frind a PE failed at Broxbourne Woods but had 4 Silver-washed Fritillary including a mating pair. 2 White admiral and 1 Comma, 5 Large Skippers to make up for it. A mixed day weather wise but a fair bit of sun this morning so manged to get down to Bricket Wood and Common where had plenty of Marbled Whites and Large Skippers when the sun was out. A Windy day with not a great deal of sun but a Male Silver-washed Fritillary & 2 White Admirals along with Marbled Whites the highlight of the day at Bricket wood Common.

Today at Thursley Common had 6 Silver-studded blue all male, 1 Common Blue and 1 Specked and Green Hairstreak and comma on the Hard shoulder of the M3 on the way home which turned a 50 minute journey into a 4 hour journey
