Re: CJB

Thanks Jason,

Unbelievable day out. Topped off this weekend by the 17th species to be seen in the garden which was a marbled white!

I am hoping that a DGF makes an appearance as we are surrounded by down lands.

If you can make it to Daneway, I cannot recommend it enough!

Flutter on!

Re: Collard Hill or Daneway Banks?

Hi Jason I went to Daneway on Friday morning at around 08.30 and within 30 minutes I had already seen 3 Large Blues. I wasn't even at the hotspot and met a local who said they are having a good year, to the extent that they are being seen across the reserve. I guess I am saying that it is definitely...

Re: Wurzel

Hi Wurzel, Your reports are as enjoyable as ever! My tally at home now is up to 16 species which I can't believe are all in the garden, with Ringlet and Large Skipper being the new arrivals. Keeping my fingers crossed for a DGF. I just wanted to say that after you were kind enough to point me toward...

Daneway Magic

Hello All UKB'ers, I managed to steal 45 minutes yesterday morning at Daneway bank and with HUGE thanks to Mike I found what I was after and managed to snap a new lifer on my mobile. First things first, if anyone feels they have lost their marbles, you need to go to Daneway Bank as I have never seen...

Re: MikeOxon

I look forward to visiting Daneway Banks for an extended length of time and merely taking in anything it throws at me. Hi David, Daneway is an amazing place and it will throw all sorts at you. I have managed to sneak out and have a couple of forays there and both times were amazing in terms of spec...

Re: MikeOxon

Thanks Mike! Fingers crossed for the weather and LB on Friday morning! A DGF would be a bonus too! Have you seen any hairstreaks there? Just opposite the inn there is a public footpath towards the wood and I have scoped the field which has a lot of ant hills covered in thyme so I might have a quick ...

Re: MikeOxon

Good morning Mike, I was hoping you were going to post about LB's at Daneway and Voila! :D I am going there on Friday morning and keeping my fingers firmly crossed as it would be incredible to add it to my list. I assume I park at the Inn and head up the hill  Do they have DGF's there as, of a...

Re: Daneway Bank

Good morning UK B'ers I managed to grab 30 minutes and return to Daneway Bank at the weekend and didn't have enough time to follow Mike's directions. It wasn't a wasted trip though and I managed to snap some locals on the phone. Definitely my best Dingy to date and a slightly worn Brown Argus. The i...

It might be worn, as here is one I took yesterday; interesting to know from the cognoscenti.

Re: Daneway Bank

Thanks Mike and Jason! I am seriously keeping my fingers crossed for the Large Blue. When I visit Daneway, I usually take the upper path from the entrance gate (turn left then up the hill) This curves to the right and follows the North edge of the reserve all the way to a clearing at the far North E...

Daneway Bank

Good Morning UK B'ers, It has been a while since I posted, but I have been reading all your posts with interest. I managed my first outing yesterday to a specific sight and made my way to Danebury Bank. I parked up next to the Daneway Inn (old habits) and can't help feeling that I was not in the flu...

Re: Jasonbirder

Hi Jason, You have been very busy! Very impressive to see your trips and quests to find species. I am on a quest to photograph all the UK species on my mobile and am up to 48, with some easy targets still to come. It turns out that near to where I live in Gloucs, there is a Large Blue site, so finge...

Re: MikeOxon

Hi Mike, Thank you for your info! I drove past Hayley Wood, so have located that and will visit the Gloucs website. Thank you for getting back to me and I hope you have managed to make the most of the weather! I am yet to get stuck in but from very early on have had Brimstones, S Whites, GV Whites, ...

Re: MikeOxon

Good morning Mike,

I have been following your posts with interest.

I have recently moved near Cirencester and I am hoping to get a couple of hours this afternoon to look for our fluttering friends.

I wondered which sites you would recommend the most in the area?

Re: Chalkhill Blue - Favourite Photo of 2013

Taken on the mobile on my second trip to Ashton Rowant. 2013-08-10 14.07.46.jpg An incredible day when I saw the most butterflies I have ever seen and they were literally everywhere. In the same day I got my first pictures of CY and a bizarre skipper aberrant, which Sussex Kipper recognised but I ha...
