Black hairstreak flight period finishing dates?

Hi, Does anyone know the VERY LATEST dates at which Black hairstreaks are reported each year. I understand the time between when they hatch out to when they die is short. Any info would help me massively. Thanks, Nick. P.S. can anyone help me with my Fermyn woods thread on the sites forum: ( http://...

Fermyn woods (Northamptonshire)

I know it's a while off yet until peak time for the Butterflies there, but i thought i'd find out in advance so less confusion later on. Which are the best places in Fermyn woods and Lady wood for the Butterflies (Black hairstreak, Purp emperor, White admiral, White letter hairstreak, etc) as lookin...

Re: Any Pearl Bordered Fritillary Yet?

I understand now how it is a PBF (after looking at the link), but if you look at the pictures i have attached (the ident. pieces of the link, and one of Paul's pics) you can see how much a PBF can look like a S PBF.

Cheers.

Re: Any Pearl Bordered Fritillary Yet?

Nice pics Paul, but aren't these / isn't this a Small pearl.

The grey "dots" at the top on both sides look good for one, and the side views seems right.

Plus a few might be on the wing at the moment, and they are meant to be at Warton.

I'm open for being corrected.

Cheers.

Re: Any Pearl Bordered Fritillary Yet?

I know it's not in the area you're all at (except Wartoners) but there was 15+ Obliging, yet very fast PBF's at Gait barrows in Lancs on Sunday just been.

Cheers.

Re: Norfolk

Thanks for all the great replies.

I understand that the last week of May isn't the peak time for Swallowtails, but might there be a few out in the odd place here and there, e.g. some of the places you've provided.

Cheers,

Nick.

Great weather - Great Butterflies! - Gait barrows & L's LB

Today a visit to Gait barrows and Lord's lot bog (both in Lancashire) was well worth the drive. Gait barrows: 1 Duke of Burgundy (very Hard to find - but well worth the effort, as it couldn't have showed any better in the midday sun!), 1 Dingy skipper, showing very well (i knew they existed at Warto...

Nature of Britain

Was just watching "The Nature of Britain" by Alan titchmarsh. It was the Woodland episode, and there is a beautiful piece of footage on the Purple emperor.

Anyone else see it,

If not, it's well worth it.

Nick.

P.S. The whole thing so far is great!
