Re: Painted Lady - Favourite Photo of 2011

I only saw two Painted Ladies this year the first was at Collard hill on the 25/6/11 and the second was at Aston Rowant on the 3/9/11. If you look closely at the first one photographed at Collard Hill there is something on the end of its body.

Re: multiple species photo challenge

Hi I have gone though my butterfly photos and come up with these shots of two or more species. Some of the photos are a bit blurred ( a combination of an old camera and butterflies moving to fast ) if you look hard you should see what I saw.

I saw three Red Admirals today, two feeding on Ivy and one flying. Seen at St Michaels station Aigburth Liverpool. That's fast becoming an iconic late season location for Red Admirals! I found the Ivy patch on sunday and have gone back to it every time its been sunny. I geuss Iv just been lucky.

Re: November 2011 sightings

How would a butterfly know a burrow was disused though?

....or a human for that matter.

I could tell the Burrow was disused because it had a cobweb over most of the entrance.
The butterfly on the outer hand i guess was just lucky.

Re: November 2011 sightings

Today I went for a walk at the Weaver bend near Frodsham. I was delighted to see a pristine Peacock butterfly sunning its self on a bare patch of a grassy bank. I watched for about 15 minutes before it flew down a disused rabbit burrow.
I also saw a Red Admiral.

They made my day.
