DSLR vs Compact...?

Hi Guys Just bit the bullet and got a DSLR so I have started to see the differences... Got a Tamron 90mm macro to play with as well, which gives some very nice sharp images, but with a very small depth-of-field when you go in very close, so I will half-fill the frame with the object and crop down in...

Nice start...

I think you will have plenty of fun working out how to get the best from your new toy in the winter to be ready for the next butterfly season! I do think, however, that the lump of glass in front will make the biggest difference! (I like the look of the Tamron 90mm and it has some good reviews at ar...

Oh be sure I'M getting a DSLR...

....But when I do I will be ready to use it well, as I learn how to push the limits of my current set-up. Until then I am happy to stay with my inferior bridge (as I concede) until I find something that gives me the same hand-held performance and flexibility I get from £325 worth of kit! (The D200 i...

"....with a little investment." I think is the most telling statement in all of this discussion. The marginal benefits of image quality in DSLR's particularly for butterflies (shot in good light mostly at ISO 100 or 200) balanced against weight (have you tried to hand-hold a Nikon D200+ma...

I did not mean "Don't go DSLR" I was asking if the IS in-camera in the FZ50 (et alia) is matched by anything in say a Nikon D200 and not achieved outside the camera. Looking at the Sony it DOES have IS in-camera...

I have been thinking about this myself - Which of the major players (Canon, Nikon, etc) has Image Stabilisation (IS) In-camera, rather than In-lens? With my humble FZ50 I can hand-hold down to 1/25th and still get good results - would I be able to do that with a Nikon D200, WITHOUT the IS In-lens ca...

RE: DSLR and Bridge Cameras - Lumix FZ50

Like many people these days, I have left the old 35mm SLR behind in the cupboard and embraced digital. Well, having done a lot of research and limited like most people by budget, I have explored 2 "Bridge" cameras. My first was a Minolta Z5, which gave 10x zoom and Macro and Supermacro set...

Annual Competition

I don't know what others think - but I'm sure I speak for many people - trying to choose between the fantastic selection of entries is next-to impossible! I'd be happy to defer to someone better qualified and less-involved than myself for the judging

I agree Dave Mac, Cris, et al. - we can still give the Two G's a run for their money!
Changed to this Small White instead.

Jack's Poignant shot says it all for September!

Like many others - hardly a shot in anger in September.
Jack's shot is a perfect for the end-of-season and a reminder of the fragility of life....
