Danbury lakes, Essex. About 15 meadow Brown, 10 Ringlet, 6 Small Skipper, 1 Red Admiral, and the White Plume below. Also saw the Blue below, not sure of sex or species. Thought it could be a female Common Blue, or a Brown Argus.

One tree hill, Thurrock. Went to a meadow which the local warden assured me had a population of Essex Skipper. Saw scores of Skippers and Ringlets, about two dozen Marbled White, three Comma and a number of ?Small/Large white. The pics below are of two Skippers. One of these clearly has the orange u...
Re: june 2011
Decided on a change of scenery today. One Tree Hill, Thurrock. Came across a very small meadow environment (approx 300' x 50') with a surprisingly large number of our friends. Saw about thirty marble white, 5 Essex Skipper (too lively to capture), and a few each of meadow brown, small white and Ring...
Re: june 2011
I can start by confidently stating: definitely not a dragonfly. This insect has only two wings, which places it firmly in the Diptera. I think I can see one of the halteres, which are the little balance weights that hind-wings evolved into in the diptera (true flies). The abdomen shape indicates a ...
Re: june 2011
Just returned from a pleasant walk in Gloucester park, Basildon. Not such an abundance of wildlife as Willow park. However, did see a few large white and 3 Ringlets and a single Marbled White. Also this beauty below. Thought it might be a clearwing or Hornet moth, until I got home and checked my res...

Re: Lepidoptera Breeders Association
I've only recently joined this forum, having been bitten by the Butterfly bug about a year ago. I have to say that the idea of having some Pupae develop into butterflies in my own home has a great appeal. My teenage kids are interested too. Before I dip my toe into the water, so to speak, I thought ...
Re: june 2011
Wicken Fen, despite overcast and raining plenty of activity. 20+ ringlets, 15+ Meadow Brown, 6 Large Skipper, and 3 Green veined White. Unfortunately, only the Skipper would oblige me in sitting still for more than a second :( Moved on to Anglesey Abbey, again plenty of Ringlets and Meadow Brown, al...
Re: june 2011
Another beautiful afternood walk in the meadows and woodland of Willow park, Langdon hills. sightings include around 40-50 Large Skipper, 20+ Meadow brown, 3 splendid new Comma, 2 Speckled Wood, and a mother Shipton. I was also rewarded with my first sightings of a Ringlet and Marbled White, beautif...

Re: Moth ID please
Thanks Chris. The markings on the small dusty wave seem a closer match. The colour question remains though?

Re: Moth ID please
Thank John. Looking at various internet sources, I can see similarities in the markings. However, these suggest a grey coloured moth. The one in my hallway seems much darker. Are such colour differences noted in moth species?

Re: june 2011
Despite the cloud and rain, a short walk in Willow park, Basildon, yielded 20-30 large Skippers,1 Burnet companion, 2 Speckled wood, 2 unidentifed white, around a dozen Meadow Brown, and the one below which I'm undecided about. Thought it might be a Heath, but none of my sources confirm. Rich poss h...
