Looks like a Mullein Wave to me, but then I have been known to be wrong.

Thank John. Looking at various internet sources, I can see similarities in the markings. However, these suggest a grey coloured moth. The one in my hallway seems much darker. Are such colour differences noted in moth species?

Thanks Chris. The markings on the small dusty wave seem a closer match. The colour question remains though?

Hi Rich,
i'd be happy with that colour, if you google images you will see they can vary quite widely

Also, was the pic taken under an artificial light source? That can mess around with the WB and cause some odd colour casts.

My initial thought was a mottled beauty which is quite a large geometrid ... inch an a half wingspan in that pose?

Thanks for the replies guys. If it helps ID, it measured 21mm. It was attached to my front door for most of the day!
