Re: Aperture or Lightroom
Hi Bill, Thanks for the reply. I am on a fast learning curve now but first of all have to resolve a problem with my Mac. Its started giving me error messages when I start Aperture but the Apple Help Line guys have got their heads into it, so will soon be soretd. I have signed up to a years "on...

Re: Aperture or Lightroom
I use a Mac and Aperture but I can't compare to Lightroom as I have never used it. But I did move from Windows to a Mac and much prefer the Mac, although I have Windows installed on it too for those applications which have no equivalent in OSX. But Aperture is excellent for me. If you've got specifi...

Re: Spring 2012 Competition
Really liked Iain's, Nicks and Trev's entries, but Sussex's PBF was the winner for me - the background colours just complement the butterfly perfectly. Wish I had got a good enough one to enter, but didn't. Thanks to the judges for spending time scoring and critiquing, it's greatly appreciated. Chee...

Re: Pentax Papilio Binoculars
Hi folks Can anyone with a pair of Papilio's do me a favour and check to see whether they are stamped with a serial number please? Mine are with Pentax for repair (focus wheel came off and is lost) and I'm having trouble establishing proof of purchase (an ebay buy) so wondered whether they are stamp...

Re: Which butterflies are you most looking forward to seeing
For me hopefully a couple of new species, Lulworth and Essex Skippers would be great. But the opportunity to get a nice Dark Green Frit photo is what I really crave. Despite living and working in a very hot spot for them I seem to always fail to see them at their peak,

Re: Macro lenses - which focal length?
Another advocate of the longer lens here. I have used a Sigma 180 for 10 years or more, and love it. However the new 150 Sigma really appeals. Sadly there wasn't one under the tree this morning. As regards hand-held, Monopod, Tripod. Personally I now use a tripod for just about every shot. However ...

Re: November 2011 competition
Thanks to all who liked and voted for my image, very happy to get on the podium
, Nigel's was my favourite but would have been much nicer if the forewing had been more exposed, in my opinion.
Cheers all and Happy Xmas everyone!

Re: November 2011 competition
Thanks for posting those changes Pete, ditto for me too, I think the new system makes a lot more sense and am very happy to see the change. I've found that some times the pressure to get a photo for the monthly comp gets in the way of butterfly activities rather than becoming complementary to them i...

Re: 2011 Annual Photography Competition
Congrats to John Bogle, winner of the 2011 UK Butterflies Annual Photography Competition - with a lovely picture of a Silver-studded Blue on a grass head. Congratulations also go to Nigel Kiteley (2nd overall) and Paul Kipling (3rd overall). John wins a voucher from UK Butterlies sponsor, WildGuide...

Colour saturation in Google Chrome
Hi all Has anyone else noticed that Google Chrome seems to display images with slightly more saturated colours than other browsers? I say slight but it is easily noticeable; if I save my image in photoshop elements and load it to the galleries here or Flickr then view it in Google Chrome the colour ...

LOL, I just checked the Meadow Brown comp entries. Again, it appears as if someone has entered 3 images, and they don't look alot like a meadow brown!

Re: Butterfly dreams
I don't very often dream of butterflies but when I do the butterflies generally aren't normal ones. I have dreamt of huge Purple Emperors the size of buzzards, and wake up wondering how cool it would be if they really were that size.

Re: Lens recommendations
Quick diversion and a question mainly for Gary but also to others who use the Canon 100-400L. Do you use it with a protector filter or UV filter or similar? The reason I ask is that I've found mine is noticeable less sharp/able to accurately focus with one on, I've had a Canon clear protect filter ...
