Re: Monselice Italy

Thankyou for the reply, sadly i have to report that almost every evening has been ruined by rain. My only sighting has been a single small white. I return to the UK tomorrow where i hope for better luck! On a brighter note i have spotted my first cuckoo for several years, at less than 25 metres (5-3...

Monselice Italy

I will be working in Monselice from April 9th. Last week I managed Small White and a single Large Tortoiseshell in the hotel grounds but had no transport to explore the surrounding area. With the lighter evenings and use of a car I hope to find some more butterflies so wondered if anyone has any kno...

Re: Swallowtails 2011

Hi Steve I visited today, saw two on the lane approaching the Doctors garden before two more nectaring on the flowers in the garden. Another three or four flying over the reeds in the reserve gave a total of seven or eight. All individuals that allowed close inspection were in pristine condition wit...

Re: April 2011

A stroll around the village during a brief period of sunshine this afternoon produced a Brimstone, several small Torts, a Peacock and a Comma before a pristine male Orange Tip made my day!
Does this mean Spring is really here?

Re: The Butterflies of Britain & Ireland (2nd Edition)

Mine has arrived as well. What a lovely surprise, i thought it was to be released on Friday and would arrive next week.
Already in trouble with my partner as I'm not listening to her!
Plates are gorgeous and the text both easy to read and crammed with information.

Re: Elements 7, using RAW and recommended books

Hi Mark, I suggest you visit The Luminous Landscape website and buy the guide to raw processing. It costs $39.95 (about £27)and lasts 7.5 hours! Everything you could ever need to know is covered and demonstrated on a computer. The real advantage i found is the ability to watch then try it on your own ...

Re: Rutland Water

Hi Polly, The nearest site i can recomend is Ketton Quarry. You will not beat it for peace and quiet after the bedlam of birdfair. I must confess to not having ever been in August, but early July i had Marbled White,Green Hairstreak(the tattiest i've ever seen) plus dozens of the commoner species(M....

Re: High Brown Frit Sites

Hi, Thanks for the advice. I spent several hours at Arnside in very windy conditions where I saw many 'flyby' fritillaries. Eventually one or two settled long enough to snap although I never did get to see the underwing, but having examined my photographs i'm happy that at least two were High Brown....
