Monselice Italy

Post by hosebirder »

I will be working in Monselice from April 9th.
Last week I managed Small White and a single Large Tortoiseshell in the hotel grounds but had no transport to explore the surrounding area.
With the lighter evenings and use of a car I hope to find some more butterflies so wondered if anyone has any knowledge of the area and where to look?

Looking at Google maps I'd say the Parco Regionale dei Colli Eucanei is a pretty good starting point. That's a few km North to North-West from the town. The little hill Montericco just North of the centre should make a nice short walk too.

Later in the summer I wouldn't miss Lago di Garda, but it is further off and it is early for the higher ground there. If you stay till mid-June, Malcesine and Monte Baldo will be nice.

Thankyou for the reply,
sadly i have to report that almost every evening has been ruined by rain.
My only sighting has been a single small white.
I return to the UK tomorrow where i hope for better luck!
On a brighter note i have spotted my first cuckoo for several years, at less than 25 metres (5-30am no camera!!!)
