Re: Indian Moon Moth

indian moon moths need warmth, so keeping them outside ,unless in a heated greenhouse or conservatory will not work. the catts emerging from the eggs will feed on a large variety of foodplants, i have found apple best, rhododendron very good also. keep them indoors at normal room temp in small plast...

the ranger e-mailed me yesterday, they have only just started emerging but in small numbers, so they wernt on the wing when the travellers were on the site.

Re: Reducing photos

if you are using photoshop, click "image - image size" then with both constain proportions & resample image boxes ticked change resolution to 190 pixels/inch and
height to 9 cm . this will give an image of 1010 pixels width. then re sharpen :D

Re: Resolution

HI PAUL, a raw file has no sharpening , so after conversion needs to be sharpened, unlike a jpg that is sharpened in camera when shot.

i sharpen a small amount in lightroom when converting , then re sharpen jpg when finished after re sizing for web, or before printing.

Re: Photographing micro moths

think roger has everything covered, shooting such a slow shutterspeed is not going to produce a sharp enough image even with a tripod! try hand held shooting in manual, at f8, iso 100 with flash . 1/200th. for the size of subject i think you need extension tubes to increase magnification to fill mor...

Re: Artificial light causes printing problem

the first shot looks like white ballance is too warm, common with indoor shooting with flash in auto wb mode in cameras menu
if your printer is in auto mode it will be correcting the white ballance automatically .
try manually setting wb to a cooler "k" setting 4500 maybe

Re: Upgrading my camera body

THE 60D has already reduced in price since it came out just befor x mas, so would be a better option, especially as you will pay top price for new model.
it is slightly bigger than the 400-600 series, but smaller than the old 50d. taking alot of features from the 7d.

Re: Canon lens advice please

high Hugh i also use the 70-300is 4.5-5.6 , good for birds and ok for butterflys/dragons. adding a 12 mm extension tube [kenko ] shortens focal distance for butts image quality not as good as 100mm macro though. here are 2 shots robin shot 300mm f7.1 http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5219/5404752327_78...

Re: Canon Christmas present?

superb! guess that will be great for long shots! add extension tubes for extra magnification at longer shooting distance.
i use a 12mm ex tube on my 70-300 for butterflys/dragons .

Re: Microadjustment

congrats on new camera, the 100 macro is superb! i tend to stay at iso200 for natural light shots with this lens, keeps the shutterspeed a bit higher. even 400 would be pretty much noise free so u could either. depth of field is very narrow, especially compared to compact cameras with much smaller s...

Re: Canon Christmas present?

how cheap?

take a look at canon 18-55 is - http://www.warehouseexpress.com/buy-can ... s/p1021794
the 7d does warrant a decent quality lens though, would need to shell out £300 odd
this focal range good for landscapes /general photos
