Indian Moon Moth

Post by lindonuk »

Hello all, first let me apologise for my ignorance, i'm new to this site and to butterflies and moths, at the moment i have 15 Indian Moon Moth eggs, i have a butterflie house ready in the garden, my question is when eventually the eggs hatch and turn into moths, will the adults lay more eggs and if so how do i keep them or do they hatch again or become dormant? thankyou for your time, yours Lindon.

indian moon moths need warmth, so keeping them outside ,unless in a heated greenhouse or conservatory will not work.

the catts emerging from the eggs will feed on a large variety of foodplants, i have found apple best, rhododendron very good also.
keep them indoors at normal room temp in small plastic boxes, increase boxs in size as they grow. they will eat alot of food plant when they get quite large! approx 3-4 inch
they are double brooded so the cocoons from the catts will hatch in about 6 -8 weeks, the moths will pair up very easily given a bit of extra heat, they are short lived maybe 2 weeks. the cocoons of second brood will overwinter and emerge next spring.
plenty of images of them in a set on my flickr - http://www.flickr.com/photos/goldenorfe ... 665253916/
