Re: Should I be concerned about my local population?

Not that it is of any use to you, but I am still seeing good numbers of spec wood in our part of Norfolk. Eric

Re: Susie

Send some Brown hairstreaks up here please Susie, too far to travel all the way down there. Tried Chambers farm wood Lincs today but none seen by anyone, maybe a couple of fast flyby's but that was all. Eric

Re: Need a cheap camera bag??

Yes Chris, thats the one. They still had some in stock at our local Aldi last friday. most of their special offer do sell out quickly but as this is a more specialist item & not many may have found an alternative use it may be slower moving than usually. Eric

Re: August 2012

I called in again today at Warham camp on way back from Cley/Salthouse/Kelling, not much at those! Still good numbers of CHB's flying at Warham but most rather tattered, much frantic chasing of tattered females by tattered males but did find this reasonable pair enjoying their nuptials. Also just on...

Re: August 2012

Saturday was so warm & sunny on Norfolk coast with not much breeze, I set off on the coastal path at 7.30am & dawdled an hour down to the NOA. Found 12 Walls mostly female & some of the MB's & gatekeepers. 8 spec woods in the pines & a few whites & lots Dragonflies. NOA had l...

Re: August 2012

This afternoon I ventured out into our local wood for the 4/5th time to try for Purple hairstreaks. finally found them in a relatively young oak near to the old oak they were in last year. The old oak has been badly hit with mildew after all the spring rain. At least we still have some. One I observ...

Re: August 2012

Warham camp yesterday morning provided me with the flavour of an experience an experiemce I only read about from our regular sthn downland members. Arr 9am & stayed untill 10.45. CHB's all over, guestimate at least 2/300 many females (non last week) & I photographed at least 5 different mati...

Re: August 2012

Thanks Guy & Jack, I did have my doubts that is why I asked the question. Leaves another question though - where are the male common blues, not seen any for ages & if 2 females were about they must be missing something! Eric

Re: August 2012

Sunny on Norfolk coast this morning for a few hrs. Titchwell produced a Wall & several Gatekeepers down by the new Parrinda hide. Holme NWT has started to liven up a bit. Lots small skippers & Gatekeepers, a few Meadow browns & 6spot Burnet moths, 1 flyby Peacock, 1 small Copper & be...

Need a cheap camera bag??

Last year I said I had bought a bag described as a "Fishing bag" from Aldi for use as a camera bag. Very pleased with it & in use every day now & would not go out without it, zipped solid base for sarnis & cake if on a day out. Zipped side pocket for anything with velcro inner ...

Re: August 2012 Warham camp Norfolk

As forecast seemed as good as it is going to be this week I decided today was the day for a trip down coast as far as Cley. Stopped at Wells for a photo as tide was in & flat calm no wind at all. Called at Warham camp around 8.30 but cool & damp so no bf's about. I have never seen it so lush...

Found what I believe is the first Grayling this year @ Holme NWT. Butterflies are still scarse in this part of Norfolk, not see a blue of any type for ages. Eric

Re: nfreem

Neil, you deserve a medal if you walked 21 miles on tuesday & the super photos were your just reward. Far too hot for me that day to do any more than a basic walk to Lady wood & back & anyway about 4 miles is my max distance! Eric

Re: July 2012

In contrast to yesterdays multiude of Purple Emperor's at Fermyn, they were very short supply today. Quite a few people there i/c Mathew Oates who said they were noy performing today. I spoke to no one who had seen a PE in the Ride down from gliding club entrance. We all had to walk round to Lady wo...

FZ150 replacement announced

The Panasonic fz150 has proved very popular over last 12 months especially for wildlife it seems. Now the fz200 is announced (see Panasonic website), the big change is now f2.8 throughout the whole zoom range to 600mm instead of max f5.2 at long end. The web forums are full of praise for this develo...

Re: July 2012 - Burbage brook Derbyshire

Being in Sheffield on grandparenting duties saturday, I was delighted to wake up sunday morning to clear blue skies & lot of sunshine. I just had the morning available so took off to Burbage brook on Longshaw estate. Main target was to walk from A6187 (Hathersage rd) upstream to the stone packho...
