Another is it or isn't it thread !
Took this series at Arnside Knott this year days before Golden Orfe was there. There were lots of Frits on the wing but they wouldnt keep still in the heat of the day. Have studied the replies to Dilettantes post but still cannot make my mind up about this individual. Could someone more experienced ...

Re: Grayling to moth trap
Hi Gibster, I used to run an MV light in the garden in the '70s, I have had Small Tortoiseshells come to MV. I lived in landlocked Derbyshire both then and now. Also had a very annoying Robin who used to beat me to it in the mornings ! Clever little critters ! The cats from the local farms (one eith...

Re: Holiday to Tenerife part 3
Great report Phil ! , you have inspired me and got me all nostalgic ! :D , we have spent time in Los Gigantes for the last three years stopping in self catering appartments. We usually go in January (wifes Birthday ) but went in April this year. I have some photos of butterflies, dragonflies, lizard...

Re: Moths ID please
Hi again, just had a look in my moth guide and 2 & 3 look very like Common Heath males. Number 4 resembles the shape and form of a Bordered White and may be of that family(again male going by the feathered antennae) and I would put 5 & 6 in the family of Noctuidae and possibly the same speci...

Bath White ?
Following on from "Chrysalis Tenerife" posting with this one, its got me thinking, had put this one down as Bath White, sorry about the poor pics but all the individuals I came across (8+) would not settle for a good picture. I do have a (poor again) video clip of this particular specimen....

Chrysalis Tenerife
Took this picture to try and identify a chrysalis I came across in Tenerife. Any ideas as to what it may be?

Dark Green Fritillary
Took this photo at Arnside Knott this year whilst looking for HBF. Didnt get many HBF pics and all were topside shots, darn things would not sit still!
This individual which I take to be DGF shows whiteish patches to the forewings, is this a normal variation?
Cheers

Re: Where have all the butterflies gone?
Hi Ian, thanks for the list of species seen on your Derbys visit. A visit to Coombs Dale may have added Wall Brown,Green Veined White, Brown Argus, Small Copper,Comma and brimstone. We suffer from a restriction in species being further north, a fact which gives me much grief in that I have to travel...

Re: Where have all the butterflies gone?
Hi Piers, yes this poor pic (didnt realise at the time its wing was deformed) was taken at Coombs Dale 13/06/11 Saw around 5 individuals the same day. Reports suggest they are out in larger numbers at other sites now. Not had chance to go back yet, my Landy is in for M.O.T. !

Re: A new visitor to my little garden. Help please!
Hi Scott, from your description, try looking for Large Yellow Underwing moth or its relations, very variable on the forewings but has yellow/orangey underwings. Just a starting point on your quest. I stand to be corrected !!
