Can anyone identify the attached butterfly. We spotted it at Ingleton Falls but have not found anything in our books.
It was not blue .....more black.
As I do not have a great knowledge of butterflies I would appreciate the help.

Its a moth known as the Chimney Sweeper (Odezia atrata).

Hi Dave, its larvae feed on Pignut a small member of the Umbellifer family found in unimproved pastureland, hope this helps.

Thanks for the info, how do you tell a butterfly from a moth, is it something to do with how many wings?
