Re: Black Hairstreak flight period in East Midlands
Am I late now for the Black Hairstreaks at Glapthorn Cow Pastures, or will they still be about? Thanks.
Re: Rarities
Thanks Barrie.
Rarities
What rarities have been recorded in Britain over the last few years, and is there an equivalent of the British Birds Rarities Committee that assess each occurrence and judge each on their merits; especially with wedding releases etc. Is there a rarities report produced to see what occurred when? Not...
Re: May 2020
On Wednesday 2nd, saw 11 different species at Crymlyn Burrows on the Swansea coast. Large, Small, Green Veined White, Small Heath, Peacock, Orange Tip, Brimstone, Small Blue, Small Copper, Dingy Skipper plus my first Brown Argus of 2020: 1BrArg4(1).jpg Notwithstanding your location, why isn't this ...
Re: July 2019
I'm only casual on here, (mainly a birder), but surprised there's no mention of the Pale Clouded Yellow that was present the other day. Likely to be the real deal or not?

Re: Silver-washed Fritillary
Thanks all for replies. Difficult to know if climate change and natural northern colonisation, or deliberate introductions, or both for some of the Yorkshire sightings.

Silver-washed Fritillary
Hi what's the nearest place to Yorkshire to see this species? It looks like there's a site(s) in West Lancashire somewhere; maybe there?
Thanks.
Thanks.

Re: Yellow-legged Tortoiseshell Invasion in the Netherlands!
Do people think what we are seeing is the start of a major invasion that will see many more if we have a good August or is it likely to always be a trickle? Are we talking loads in Holland or just reasonable numbers?
Thanks .
Thanks .

Bovey Heathfield - Silver - studded Blue
What are the views on this introduced colony in terms of whether they are "countable?" I know it's each to their own but just wondered if the view was they'd been there long enough?
Thanks.
Thanks.

Re: Long tailed Blues in Kent
Thanks. I guess any live state equals a new species sighting for Britain. I'll not plan too much though!

Re: Long tailed Blues in Kent
What's the flight period like for this species? I can't get down to see them until a week on Saturday. I guess I'd be pushing my luck by that date but just thought I'd ask, assuming reasonable weather in-between.

Re: August 2013
Just back from a three day break on the Isles of Scilly. I was mainly out at sea on a pelagic watching shearwaters and petrels, but did one walk where I saw several Clouded Yellows, probably about ten during a couple of hours on St. Mary's on the south facing slopes looking across to St. Agnes. Will...

Re: Lulworth and Essex Skipper information needed
Yes, thank you. I've seen the gully on your shots so I know where I'm going. I think it's where I connected with Small Blue on my one and only visit a few years ago.
Hopefully will get some sun, but not too much for photo's.

Re: Help With Whites
Thanks for the replies. I live in Wetherby, north of Leeds and last weekend when I took these there was an explosion of whites in my garden and surrounding countryside. They were everywhere, and it seemed an even split from what I could tell between Large, Small and Green-veined.

Re: Lulworth and Essex Skipper information needed
Do people think Lulworth Skipper should still be flying in Dorset in mid August? I've a window of opportunity on the 13th. What's the most reliable site - Durlston C.P., Lulworth Cove or another site? Any specific directions re. where to look - specific site info. plus habitat info. much appreciated.

Help with id - Zante Greece
Hi just back from Zante where I saw several swallowtail sp. flying in "apartments" type habitat and general med. cliff scrub. On one occasion I saw long extensions on the lower wing, so am presuming Scarce. I just wondered if anyone else has had experience of swallowtails in Zante, and whi...
