Two sightings of this species, also known as the Cardinal, have been recorded - a female in a valley near Tintagel in East Cornwall in August 1911, and another female at Durdle Door, Lulworth, Dorset on 13th August 1969. This species is considered a very rare immigrant that is, undoubtedly, mistaken for a Silver-washed Fritillary and is therefore under-recorded.
This species was first defined in Denis & Schiffermüller (1775) as shown here (type locality: Vienna, Austria).
