The Grayling Shuffle
The Grayling Shuffle
Just nosing in Pete's diary and saw the Grayling shuffle observation, which is the three staged closure of the wings upon settling. I too have noticed this behaviour, and it's the reason they are a right pig to photograph with the eye spots showing. Stage one- got it in the frame. Stage two-focus. Stage three always occurs just before the shutter is about to be pressed..... Where's it gone? Even more maddening is the Wall flick. ![Laughing ](./images/smilies/icon_lol.gif)

Re: The Grayling Shuffle
I'm going through my photos from Sunday and I was lucky enough to see the Grayling shuffle and plenty of Walls.
Not sure what you mean by the Wall flick Zonda but they are incredibly difficult - for each shot I have with wings open I have about 5 where it has flown just as the shutter goes down. I have more Walls in flight than I do staying still!
Cheers

To butterfly meadows, chalk downlands and leafy glades; to summers eternal.
Re: The Grayling Shuffle
I should have called it the Wall flash i suppose, but that sounded a bit dodgy. ![Laughing ](./images/smilies/icon_lol.gif)
