This is the nearest I have managed to one of those archetypal grainy photos of black panthers in the British countryside.
The cat is a domestic one - we could see the collar and hear its bell - but it was a large one and we did a double-take when we first saw it.
Black beasts!

Last winter, on a day when I didn't have my camera with me, I saw a wolf loping through my local woods. Since then at least one wolf has taken up residence on my mountain - the first confirmed presence of a wolf here for 152 years (see http://www.lematin.ch/pages/home/actu/s ... enu=292275) - but I have not had the luck to see it again.
The moral is, ALWAYS take your camera. Today it was a cat. Tomorrow it might really be one of those panthers...
