Any ideas???

Am I correct in thinking this is some kind of nest? I remember reading some place that ants are linked to some butterflies when they lay the eggs??? I took this picture last year on one of the hikes we went on.

Hi Zoe,

Are the critters in the photo ants? It's hard to tell from the photo. The only structure that's anything like this, that I've seen, is a spider's nest with emerging young.

Yes They are ants, we didn't have any idea as to what it was as first.
