Unusually marked male Ringlet

The fact that this blemish only exists on one of the forewings leads me to believe that the butterfly has come into contact with something which has caused the wing to stain, Stevie.

You can see a fainter stain a little lower down towards the wing edge.

It's quite possible this is water damage - the butterfly may have been caught in a shower! Given that Ringlets do quite often fly in cloudy conditions, it's quite a likely scenario.
