Not too bad Chocky.
Its easier if you've got good photo gear.
This is one of my favourite subjects (capturing crocea uppersides), but even with a good bridge camera (Panasonic FZ150), I have a job reaching this standard.
Keep going. Look forward to more.
Cheers, Chris

Nice photo again Chocky,
What camera do you use ? (I am far from being a specialist and would like to know what I should be aiming for).

Thank you for your comments Much appreciated

Oh. I'm just a hobbyist really

I have a Nikon D7000 Camera.
Nikon 55-300mm VR F4.5-5.6G ED AF-S DX NIKKOR SWM lens. also
AF-5 DX Micro Nikkor 40 mm f/2.8G SWM lens

so some times I can follow birds and butterflies in flight when in continuous mode

Thank you again for all your kind comments

Never a bad image to get a Clouded Yellow open wing shot, Chocky.

There have been so many around this year that I think a fair number of us have got a bit of practice in! :)

We don't usually get Clouded Yellows down here in Exmouth.

You have the right tool for the job but, even with fairly fast continuous shooting, you were very lucky to capture such a good 'pose' on the flower! I'd be very pleased with that :)

I just wondered what the public thought of this old lady chasing a round the gardens butterfly. Mind you it was worth it

That is indeed a female Clouded Yellow. The black borders to the wings (which are nicely backlit here) have yellow spots in them, which indicates a female butterfly. In males, the border lacks the spots.

Do they vary in size? Today I saw one and thought it was the brimstone moth until I got close and found it to be a tiny Clouded yellow
