Here's a cheap alternative if you can't afford a Sigma lens.

I tried "arty" in last months competition and got "Luxembourg Votes", so this month it's going to be "unusual". Not the sharpest of photos, but its a hand-held shot, taken in a hurry, just before the little devil disappeared off looking for a fight.

PS; I think it is the aberration 'richstensis'

This is my entry straight from Lappland. This one isn't going to change as I've run out of hollidays. :(

Yes Roger, 2nd July, didn't see any females this year everything is late this season due to lack of sunshine, will we see any summer this year?, off to n.wales end of the week, hope there's something flying besides the sea gulls!

Hi Brian - which site was this at? This is possibly the earliest Brown Hairstreak sighting this year!

Cheers,

This essex skipper was found on my local patch of open space so I'm quite pleased to have snapped it. I took it on 2nd July.

Bardney forest near Lincoln, where the male brown hairteak was spotted, weather if I recall was overcast with showers most of the afternoon, just the odd sunny spell, as I said no sign of females

OK I decided to change mine. I originally had a Purple Hairstreak then was tempted to replace it with a good Grayling closeup. However in the end I think this Brown Argus pic is better quality:

Taken at Horsenden Hill on 30th July. Camera: Canon Powerhshot A80, Macro Mode (autofocus), full zoom, no filters.
