Hi

Checked out the local patch last night, cloudy with light drizzle and the Ringlets were still about, along with one speeding Large Skipper ...
IMG_1158.jpg
Today started off looking out the back door at the grey cloud and drizzle (usual Saturday) ... had enough by midday and headed off to Stockbridge Down ...

Still cloudy on arrival ... played around with some insects in the car park ...
IMG_1330.jpg
IMG_1458.jpg
Then off to look for whatever butterflies might be about ... just amazing ... must have found nearly one hundred Marbled Whites, loads of Ringlets, Meadow Browns, Small Heaths ... more Large Skippers than I've seen here before ... half a dozen Green-veined Whites, one very fresh Small Copper, a couple of Red Admirals, the odd Brimstone or two, a Small White and three very worn Common Blues ... not forgetting a dozen Dark Green Fritillary's ...
IMG_1831.jpg
All in all a brilliant afternoon ..

Hi

Shirley and I had a great time in Pamber Forest this morning with Pete, Mike and Tom ...

Fantastic display from the White Admirals and Silver-washed Fritillarys ... along with Ringlets, Meadow Browns, Skippers both Large & Small all in good numbers ...

and all the other local butterflies ...

Even a Purple Hairstreak joined the party ...

Hi

Excitement this morning with a Large White and Silver-washed Fritillary to add to the local list ...

Could someone please confirm my Small Skippers ... I always get them confused with Essex Skippers ...

Thanks Clive

Have a look at he thread "ID help please, Essex or Small?" under "Identification" - lots of good info! With my new-found knowledge from there, I'd say definitely Small - mainly fron the shape of the antennae. Looking closely at your pics, there is a chisel end to the antennae and there's a glimpse of orange underneath. Nice photos!

Hi

Stockbridge Down today ... and a lot of time looking at the Skippers in the hope of finding the Essex ... no luck, all Small ones unless I'm missing something ... still a great day with loads of butterflies, Marbled Whites, Dark Green Fritillary's, Skippers both Large and Small, Holly Blue and all the usual suspects ... 16 species in total ... a good number of Forester Moths and half a dozen Humming-bird Hawkmoths ... all very exciting ...

And another unidentified critter ...

Thanks Clive
