After all the foul weather we've been having it was nice to see the sun again and take a train trip along the Rhône Valley. Here are a few highlights from a couple of sites:
Provençal fritillary (Mellicta deione), subspecies berisalii.
A Queen of Spain (Issoria lathonia), with lady in waiting.
A marbled fritillary (Brenthis daphne).
A marbled skipper (Carcharodus lavatherae).
Green-underside blues (Glaucopsyche alexis) still on the wing.
Safflower skipper (Pygus carthami).
Black-veined white (Aporia crataegi).
Ilex hairstreak (Satyrium ilicis).
A territorial southern white admiral (Liminitis reducta).
A turquoise blue (Plebicula dorylas).
A fresh comma (Polygonia c-album), form hutchinsoni.
An Essex skipper (Thymelicus lineola).
Still no Lulworths, Martin...

Let me know if you plan a holiday to my part of the Swiss Alps, Andrew! Where to go depends very much on the time of year (because of the altitude variation) and if you want to see local species you need local advice. I never publish sites publicly, but am always happy to guide individuals once I am convinced they will be sensitive to the habitats and equally discreet. From what I can see, most visitors to these forums meet those criteria.
