Any ideas what this sorry looking skipper is?

Post by richardh »

Hi All

I took this today near Leicester on a site where I've seen lots of large and small skippers (and possibly some essex skippers too) - this was the only skipper I came across today and I'm not sure whether this is just a well weathered specimen or if it is something different. Any ideas?

Hi Rich - I'd go with male Small Skipper. The sex brand is there - and the antennae tips look rather brown.

Cheers,

Hi Pete

Thanks for the ID. The other small skippers I've seen all seemed to have much lighter coloured bodies so I wasn't quite sure what I was looking at.
