Populations on rise or need bread
Could someone tell me if they know what butterfly populations are rising and if any need bread this year. I am getting ready to breed some.

For increases and declines see:

for up-to-date info of a good number of species.
In terms of breeding, I wouldn't recommend trying to bolster populations of any species, other than as part of a coordinated reintroduction programme. There are side-effects (disease, increasing the number of predators etc.) that are not immediately obvious.
I suggest you contact your local branch of Butterfly Conservation to see how you can help. They're always on the lookout for volunteers with as much enthusiasm as you have Dave!
Cheers,
- Pete
