The first is a Speckled Wood. The second a Burnet Companion (moth).

Thank you for proving my suspicion that I can't tell a moth from a butterfly.

Glad I took a peek at this thread because that moth has been driving me to distraction of late. Every time I walk through a meadow, I keep seeing what I think is a Skipper only for it to settle and prove to be one of these moths.Pete Eeles wrote:Hi John - and welcome!
